Will an Espresso Machine Actually Save Me Money?
As someone who loves coffee, I’ve had this thought more times than I can count:
What if I just bought an espresso machine and made my coffee at home?
Surely that would save me money.
Well… maybe.
A cafe coffee can easily cost several dollars, while a bag of beans can make multiple cups at home. If I drink coffee every day, the maths seems pretty convincing.
But I’m also paying for more than the coffee when I go to a cafe. Someone else makes it, I don’t have to clean anything afterwards, and I get to enjoy the whole experience. Sometimes, coffee really does taste better when someone else makes it.
Then there’s the espresso machine itself.
And the grinder. And the beans. And the milk. And the cleaning supplies.
Suddenly, my brilliant money-saving plan is starting to look like an expensive hobby.
Making coffee at home can absolutely be cheaper, especially if you drink it regularly and use your equipment often. But I don’t think buying a machine automatically means I’ll spend less on coffee.
For me, it’s more about balance.
I can make my everyday coffee at home and save my cafe visits for the drinks, spaces and experiences I actually want to enjoy.
So will an espresso machine lower my coffee expenses?
Probably, if I actually use it enough.
But if I buy one and still visit cafes every other day, I’ve basically just given myself another coffee expense.
