Instant Coffee Is Still Coffee
I’ll admit it: the more I learned about coffee, the more I started looking down on instant coffee.
Once you get used to freshly ground beans, carefully pulled espresso, and cafés that can tell you exactly where their beans came from, it is easy to convince yourself that instant coffee somehow does not count. I started thinking that the little 3-in-1 sachets I used to enjoy belonged to an earlier version of me.
But honestly? I think coffee lovers can get a little too proud sometimes.
There are days when I want to sit in a café and properly appreciate my specialty coffee. I want the aroma, the texture, the little details that make one cup different from another. But there are also mornings when I am rushing out the door, barely awake, and just need something warm and caffeinated in my hands.
That is when instant coffee becomes a blessing.
It may not have the complexity of a carefully brewed pour-over, but it still gives me the thing I love most about coffee: that small moment of comfort before the day begins.
And perhaps that is what I have come to appreciate about being a coffee lover. I do not have to prove that I know good coffee by refusing the convenient stuff. I can enjoy a beautifully brewed cup one day and happily stir a sachet into hot water the next.
Instant coffee is still coffee. And sometimes, that is all I need.
