Why Brunch Will Always Be My Favourite Meal
I have never been very good at choosing just one favourite thing.
But when it comes to meals, I don’t even have to think about it.
It’s brunch.
There is something about brunch that other meals simply don’t have. Breakfast feels rushed. Lunch feels like something you squeeze into the middle of your day. Dinner usually comes with a plan.
Brunch feels like a choice.
It’s waking up without an alarm, taking your time getting ready, and knowing you have nowhere else you need to be for a while. You can order coffee without worrying about how much time you have left before work, and you can sit over a plate of eggs long after you’ve finished eating.
I think I love the freedom of it most.
Brunch also gives me permission to order whatever I’m in the mood for. Some days, I want something savoury and substantial. Other days, pancakes or a pastry sound perfect. And there is always coffee. For me, that alone is a strong argument in its favour.
Over the years, I’ve visited enough cafés to realize that a good brunch is rarely just about the food. It’s about the atmosphere, the company, and whether the café makes you want to stay for another cup.
That is part of what led me to explore some of the best Sunday brunch ideas and trends in Singapore. Sunday brunch has become its own little ritual here, whether you’re catching up with friends, celebrating something, or simply refusing to let the weekend end too quickly.
I’ve also found myself becoming much more particular about where I brunch. Not every café gets the balance right. The coffee needs to hold up, the food needs to be worth ordering, and the space needs to feel comfortable enough that I’m not constantly checking the time.
That is exactly why I ended up putting together my guide to the best brunch spots in Singapore. After visiting so many cafés, I wanted to narrow down the places that actually make me want to return.
Maybe that’s why brunch has stayed my favourite.
It isn’t the first meal of the day, and it isn’t quite lunch. It sits somewhere in between, which somehow makes it feel less restrictive.
There are no rules about what you’re supposed to eat or how quickly you’re supposed to finish.
You just sit down, order something you like, and let the morning stretch into the afternoon.
Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend.
