Some coffee stops are planned. This one wasn’t.

I came up from Somerset MRT with nowhere urgent to be, and the smell of something fried and sugared reached me before the red sign did. Tim Hortons. A name I knew from Canada, from other people’s travel stories, now sitting at the edge of 313@somerset.

I went in for a quick coffee. I stayed longer than I meant to.

A Canadian Name With a Local Address

Tim Hortons started in Canada as a coffee-and-donuts kind of place. In Singapore, the menu has grown well past that. There are grilled sandwiches, bagels, cakes, iced blended drinks, and breakfast sets that run until 11:30am.

The Tim Hortons Orchard location sits at 313 Orchard Road, #01-29. That matters, because you’ll sometimes see #01-207 linked to this branch online. That unit belongs to the VivoCity outlet at 1 HarbourFront Walk, not this one.

What sets Tim Hortons Somerset apart is quieter than the donut display. It’s the only outlet with a single-origin coffee programme and its own pasta bakes.

Counter Seats and a Steady Hum

The space feels bigger than I expected. There are plenty of tables, and a row of counter seats that suit anyone sitting alone with a book or a laptop.

It’s cosy when it’s calm. When it’s busy, it changes. Students settle in to study, the tables fill up, and the room gets a little untidy around the edges.

I ordered at one of the self-order kiosks. They’re simple to use. If you’re paying with ShopBack or a similar app, though, head straight to the counter.

The Menu, Wider Than You'd Think

Tim Hortons menu items including sandwiches, pasta, donuts, and coffee served in red mugs and plates.

I expected donuts. I found a whole day’s worth of food.

Coffee That Takes Its Time

The single-origin bar is the reason I’d come back. There’s a V60 Pour Over at S$7.50, a Kyoto Drip at S$8.00, and a Chemex Pour Over. The beans rotate, so what’s in the cup today may not be there next month.

It’s a gentler, slower kind of coffee. It’s not what most people walk into a Tim Hortons expecting.

For something sweeter, the Roasted Hazelnut Latte has earned quiet praise from regulars. The cold brew runs from about S$5.70 to S$7.90, and the Maple Cream version leans softly sweet.

Sandwiches Off the Grill

The grilled sandwiches are made to order, served on sourdough with melted mozzarella and cheddar. Some menu boards call them sourdough melts.

I’d start with the Truffle Egg Mayo at S$8.00. You’ll see it listed as Truffle Egg Mayo & Cheese, too: egg mayo, truffle mayo, rocket. It’s simple and warm, with the earthy truffle doing most of the talking.

Other popular choices include the Tuna Sriracha Cheese sandwich, which balances spicy and creamy flavors perfectly, and the Triple Cheese, a rich and gooey option for cheese lovers.

The Maple Glazed Chicken Ham & Cheese costs S$9.90. It comes with cherry tomatoes and honey mustard mayo, so it’s sweet, then sharp. Reviews on this one are mixed, and that feels fair. It’s pleasant, not memorable.

Pasta Bakes, Only Here

Two more things you’ll only find at this outlet. The Classic Aglio Olio is S$10.40, and the Truffle Smoked Chicken Carbonara is S$11.40. Both are baked and filling, the kind of plate you order when coffee turns into lunch.

Donuts, and the Small Ones

Then there are the donuts. Classic Glaze, Honey Cruller and Apple Fritter all sit in the case like they’ve been waiting for you.

The Timbits are donut holes, small enough to justify one more. The cinnamon sugar ones were the ones I kept reaching for, with sugar dusting my fingers and a little warmth still left in the dough.

Service Depends on the Hour

Service here depends on when you come.

Some visitors talk about warm, patient staff who walk them through the menu. Others describe a long wait for coffee and sandwiches, and orders left on the counter without a buzz. A few have also said the sandwiches feel small for the price.

I’d go in with patience during peak hours. Quieter times feel like a different place.

Would I Return to Tim Hortons?

Yes. Not for the donuts, though they’re comforting enough.

I’d come back for the pour-over at a counter seat, in the middle of Orchard Road, where nobody hurries you. Tim Hortons Orchard isn’t a specialty roastery, and the service can wobble. But it’s easy to reach, and it offers more than its name suggests.

If you’re planning to visit other spots, consider the nearby Tim Hortons outlets at Raffles Place and VivoCity for more options.
